Empowering Connections

Deaf District began as a personal quest of McKinnon Galloway, born out of the profound silence following a life-altering event. This journey started with McKinnon's third brain surgery, an event that brought an unexpected turn – complete hearing loss. Faced with new challenges in a world geared towards the hearing, McKinnon recognized a gap – a need for a space where the deaf and hard of hearing could access resources tailored for them, especially those who, like her, found themselves navigating deafness in a predominantly hearing community. Deaf District was conceived from this realization, not just as a website, but as a beacon of hope and solidarity for those traversing similar paths. It represents a personal mission turned into a collective vision, a platform where silence is not an absence of sound, but a powerful voice in its own right.

Our Journey

Welcome to Deaf District, a sanctuary born from the silence. Founded by McKinnon Galloway, our story is one of resilience and innovation, emerging from the challenges of navigating a hearing world without sound. After experiencing profound hearing loss, McKinnon envisioned a community where being deaf or hard of hearing isn't a barrier, but a unique perspective to be celebrated. Deaf District is more than a website; it's a vibrant hub where deaf individuals find resources, support, and a sense of belonging. Our mission is to illuminate the path for those walking in silence, turning obstacles into opportunities for connection and empowerment. Here, we share not just our story, but the stories of many, building a tapestry of experiences that resonate in both the deaf and hearing worlds.
